Tourism is one of the most important and fastest growing industries in the world. According to the World Tourism Organization, in 1950 around 25 million people traveled abroad. In 2000 that figure was nearly 700 million, and it is projected to be 1.6 billion people in 2020. Several countries around the world have adopted tourism as a strategy for economic development; however, tourism has been recognized for being an agent of change. That is, it has positive as well as negative impacts on people and the environment. Several types of tourism have emerged as alternatives to minimize the negative impacts of tourism. These include ecotourism, green tourism, alternative tourism, and other types that not only offer sustainable tourism products, but also encourage their consumers to be more friendly towards the communities that hosts them. One of these types of tourism that has, recently, gained recognition by the tourism industry and the people is ethical tourism. In other words holidays which benefit the environment, the local community, have good wages and working conditions for the employee, as well as holidays that are truthful in their promotion. Mextreme Travel can be considered member of the tour operators with an ethical approach to holidays. In fact, choices are made to have the maximum benefit for tourists with the lowest impact. In order to accomplish what our policies and business suggest, part of the income is donated to charities, devolved to organizations which strive towards conservation and protection of habitats and regions, as well as kept in order to maintain good wages and working conditions for our employees. Our partners are mostly following the standards of sustainability and ethics in tourism or participating to the funding of conservation and future projects of Holbox Island. All of us practice truthful promotion and use objective verified information. Every reservation made with us will produce a donation, independently if it is made for accommodations, excursions, weddings, transportation from / to Isla Holbox or others. For instance the tour of the turtles and whale sharks will produce 10 USD per person. On monthly base the amount produced will be put in a special fund reserved for conservation and preservation and devolved yearly to local businesses, organizations and projects as a financial support. All of them are selected from one of our team leader following their goals, objectives, priorities and impacts on conservation and protection of environments and communities around Holbox.
